The use of Flint and steel for fire making has been around forever, and as with most natural and man made products on the market today there is a huge difference between high quality and “run of the mill”. I for one am a firm believer in finding and using the best products out there, especially when it’s part of your own gear and your life can depend on it. At www.flint-and-steel.com they don’t fool around! Their Flint and Steel options and fire starter kits are outstanding and all presented on one of the most beautiful and informative websites out there.
The quality of their website and videos is testament to the quality of their products.
The #2 was the first kit we purchased and was front and center on a recent canoe expedition to Little Tupper Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate NY. Everyone was impressed with the ease of sparking an ember and making fire with such a primitive style… Making a primitive fire is not only an art but a true sport. The ability to make fire in all conditions is the single most important skill you can have in a survival situation. FLINT AND STEEL’s kit is with me now and will be on all future survival classes and trips. I just purchased KIT # 9 as a holiday gift for a special person that I know will enjoy and appreciate it. Kudos to the folks at FLINT AND STEEL!     Northcamp Survival
